It felt so good to go to my Stampin' Studio and just play! I didn't have to make anything for a craft fair or design for a class. It was just me and my stamping stuff.......what fun we had together!!!
I've been thinking about this project for a few days now, but I didn't have the chance to play until today.
Let's put it all out on the table now. I {heart} candy canes........not the funky flavored ones.......just traditional peppermint candy canes. My favorites are the ones that are green and red stripe. I insist that they taste better than just the red striped ones. I know....I am a bit nuts!
Anyway, handing out candy canes is a fun way to spread some holiday cheer. It's kinda boring just to hand a plain one over. Isn't it much nicer to give someone a candy cane all dressed up in its holiday finest.......just like this one?
It all started with my Table Settings Bigz XL die and my Big Shot. This die is actually on sale for 40% off with the Online Spectacular. If you think it's only good for making stuff for your dinner table, you are mistaken. There's SO much you can do with this die. I hardly ever use it for decorating my table. I especially love it for tags!!!
Here's what the die looks like:
I used the long tag on the bottom left of this picture to make today's project. I cut this shape on Crumb Cake cardstock.
I folded the tag in half and punched a partial circle using my 1/2" circle punch. This creates the hole to hold the candy cane.
I then grabbed my Winter Post stamp set. I stamped the gorgeous snowflake using Crumb Cake ink all over the tag. I then sponged the edges with Crumb Cake ink.
I inserted the candy cane and tied the tag together using Real Red 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon. This ribbon is so incredibly soft and supple. I love how it adds the perfect homey touch to this project.
To finish off my candy cane holder, I used my Vanilla Styled Hodgepodge Hardware (this is also on sale for 30% off during the Online Spectacular). I stamped the label image (also from Winter Post) using Early Espresso ink. I punched it out with the Designer Label Punch and colored in the poinsettia petals using a Blender Pen and my Real Red marker (scribbled on a stamp case). I placed this under the hodgepodge nameplate and attached it to my project using mini glue dots.
All that's left are the two Basic Pearls on each side of the nameplate.
I think this is the perfect way to present someone with a candy cane......green and red stripes of course!
