Welcome to Stop #33 of the Stampin' Addicts Bon Voyage Blog Hop!!!
This Blog Hop is all about celebrating Stampin' Up! stamp sets that will retire on June 30th. Each stop on the tour will showcase a different retiring stamp set......paying tribute to our favorites before they are gone forever!!!
Did you arrive from stop #32? If not......NO WORRIES!!! Each stop on the blog tour has a link to both the stop before and after so you won't miss a thing. Just keep following the links and you will make a complete circle.
My retiring stamp set if called Simple Serif alphabet. It's one of the double-mounted mini alphabets, and I like to use it as an accessory to other stamp sets. It allows me to personalize my projects even more. The stamp set includes uppercase letters, numbers and special characters. Let's get started.......
This year we are hosting a 4th of July BBQ. I always like to decorate my food table with a special table decoration. Rather than buying one that can be seen at every party, why not make one that is unique to our party?
This "firecracker" all started with a king size Pringle can. The can is first decorated with some Real Red cardstock that has been wheeled with the Classic Stars jumbo wheel using Real Red ink. Make sure to use Sticky Strip to adhere the cardstock to the Pringles can.....high humidity can do weird things with less tacky adhesive. Now onto the decorating:
- stamp the "4" (from Schoolbook Serif Numbers)....punch with Wide Oval punch...mat on two Summer Sun Scallop Oval punch.
- stamp the "th" with Simple Serif on Whisper White....punch with 3/4" circle punch
- stamp "happy" and "July" with Simple Serif on Whisper White...punch with Word Window punch
- punch stars with both star punches.....use dimensionals to place onto firecracker
- cut 1/4" x 11 strips......crimp using Paper Crimper....cut an "x" into top of Pringles can.....place crimped streamers into top of can. Fluff to look like an exploding firecracker.
Firecracker Recipe:
stamps: Simple Serif mini alphabet (retiring), Schoolbook Serif Numbers, Classic Stars jumbo wheel
paper: Real Red, Ballet Blue, Summer Sun, Whisper White
ink: Real Red jumbo cartridge, Ballet Blue, Real Red
accessories: Pringle king size can, Circle Scissor Plus, star punches, Wide Oval punch, Scallop Oval punch, Word Window punch, 3/4" circle punch, Paper Crimper, Real Red striped grosgrain ribbon, Scallop Edge punch, dimensionals, sponges
My second project is an adorable 4 1/4" square card. Now the card would have been cute enough on its own, but I wanted to tell my card recipient that I wasn't lyin' about how wild I am about him. This is why personalization is so much fun!!!
The base card is More Mustard. Each Patterns DSP pack comes with two pieces of solid paper. I love to texturize this paper with my Big Shot and Texturz Plates (in this case I used the Argyle Texturz Plate). When you use a Sanding Block, the white core of the patterned paper is exposed to give you the effect shown on this card. Cool, huh?
My focal image uses another retiring stamp set....called Wild About You. I stamped the lion three times....twice with More Mustard....once with Really Rust. I cut out just the head of the Really Rust one and the face of one of the More Mustard ones. Layer on top of each other (using dimensionals) to make one realistic looking lion.
The Really Rust strip has been stamped with the large flourish from Baroque Motifs. Thank goodness this one is not retiring. I use it for everything!!!
Now I need to personalize my card. I stamp the "no lion" with the Simple Serif alphabet and Chocolate Chip ink on More Mustard cardstock. I punched it out with my 1 1/4" circle punch, sponged with Close to Cocoa ink and matted on a 1 3/8" Really Rust circle.
Lion Card Recipe
stamps: Simple Serif alphabet, Wild About You, Baroque Motifs
paper: More Mustard, Really Rust, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Chocolate Chip Patterns Designer Series Paper
ink: Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Really Rust, Close to Cocoa
accessories: Word Window punch, 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" circle punches, Small Oval Punch, Vintage Brads, Backgrounds 1 Texturz Plate (argyle), Sanding Block, dimensionals, sponges
My final project for the blog hop is a scrapbook page. The Simple Serif alphabet is perfect for adding just what your scrapbook page needs. See how I added the words "pool" and "splash" on the tabs (made with the Keytag punch) where my pictures will be. Those tabs could easily be placed on some cardstock that slides out from behind the pictures for some hidden journaling space.
Since this mini alphabet also includes numbers, I can personalize with a date with no problem. I added the year to the bottom of my page (also using the Key Tag punch to create the tab).
Here is a close up of the photo mat tabs and the cute little fishies (from the Just Beachy stamp set in the Occasions Mini which also happens to end on June 30th):
Scrapbook Page Recipe
stamps: Simple Serif Alphabet, Schoolbook Serif Alphabet, Just Beachy

ink: Black StazOn, Pacific Point, Kiwi Kiss, Tangerine Tango, Versmark

I want to thank you for stopping at my portion of the Bon Voyage blog hop. I hope I have inspired you to use your mini alphabets as an accessory to other stamp sets. A handstamped project is wonderful, but when it's personalized just fsomeone special....well, it's even better!!!
Make sure to check back on my blog during the week....there is a sweet surprise coming your way!!!
I love comments...so if you have the time, please leave one so I will know what you think of today's projects.
Now it's time to direct you to your next stop in the Bon Voyage Blog Hop. If you are moving in a forward direction, your next step is Twila's blog. If you are moving in a backward direction, your next stop is Mary's blog.
Until next time....Happy Stamping everyone!!!
