Happy Thanksgiving....with a Twist!

This past week, I held my "Just Cards" class.  At every class, we make a fancy fold card.  This month's card really doesn't have any folds, but it sure is fancy!  

We made a telescoping card!!!  Wow.....what a fun card to make!

This card is all about the circles.  I used both punches and my Big Shot to cut my circles......so very easy peasy!!!

Let's talk about the circles from the top down.

Top element:  2 1/2" circle punch (Very Vanilla), 3" Bigz die (Cajun Craze)

Middle element:  3 1/4" Bigz die (Very Vanilla)

Bottom element:  3 1/4" Bigz die (Cajun Craze), Scallop Circle Bigz die (Pool Party)

Decorate your elements however you wish.  I stamped the Very Vanilla circles with the leaves from Gently Falling using Pool Party, More Mustard and Cajun Craze inks.  I then overstamped the circles with the Netting background stamp using Crumb Cake ink.  The edges of the circles are sponged with Crumb Cake ink too!

The 3 1/4" Cajun Craze circle is embossed with the Square Lattice embossing folder.  I then dragged my Cajun Craze ink pad over it to dirty it up a bit.  I think it looks awesome!

To put the telescoping card together:

• glue the Cajun Craze 3 1/4" circle to the Pool Party Scalloped Circle
• line up the 3 1/4" Very Vanilla circle with the Cajun Craze circle from the previous step. Poke a hole with your paper piercing tool and attach a gold brad.
• swing the card out so the two elements form a line (rather than be sitting on top of each other)
• glue the 2 1/2" Very Vanilla circle to the 3" Cajun Craze circle
• place the circles from the last step onto the 3 1/4" Very Vanilla circle (mine is not centered....it looked better off center for this design).  Poke a hole with the paper piercing tool and attach a gold brad.
• make a loop using your favorite ribbon (I used More Mustard Polka Dot Scalloped Ribbon) and attach to the card using a gold brad.

Isn't it cute?  My next telescoping card will be a snowman.  Can't you just picture it?  Cute, cute, cute!!!!

Giving Thanks

 
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect on the past year and give thanks for the special people in your life.  I wish the entire family could get together for Thanksgiving, but it's hard for some of my relatives to travel.  So, I like to make them a special card telling them how thankful I am that they are in my life.

I loved this week's Stamping 411 sketch.....so I decided to use it for this card as well.

It all started with the focal image and then I worked out from there.  I colored directly on the turkey stamp (Gobble, Gobble) with my Stampin' Write Markers (Close to Cocoa, More Mustard, Ruby Red, Really Rust) and then stamped on Whisper White.  I added some line work with my Close to Cocoa marker, punched the corners with the Ticket Corner punch and sponged with Close to Cocoa ink.

Following the sketch, the next layer is a 1/8" larger piece of More Mustard cardstock....sponged with Close to Cocoa ink and dotted with a Chocolate Chip marker.  This is then layered onto a 1/8" larger piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock.  Add some Vintage Brads to highlight the focal piece. 

I inked the sentiment (also on the Gobble, Gobble) stamp with my Chocolate Chip marker and stamped it on Really Rust cardstock.  After punching it out, I added it to the focal image.

The base card is Chocolate Chip.  The next layer is Really Rust cardstock that has been embossed with the Finial Press Impressions Die.  Rather than having the embossed side facing up, I chose to use the debossed side.  It just gives it a different texture.

Now onto my favorite part of this card.....the ribbon.   I folded the ribbon onto itself several times and used mini glue dots along the way to keep it together.  I then added a small Chocolate Chip Corduroy brad to finish off the ribbon treatment.  It's so pretty!!!  I am going to use this ribbon technique again and again. 

This card is now ready to send to my family on the east coast.  I hope they will love it!!!

Happy Fall Y'All

I told you I'd be back.......with a fall themed Blogger's Challenge.

This is one of the items I am making for my craft fair tables this year.  It's one of those buckets made with the Bigz Pillow Box die.

The turkey is made with all my punches (Scallop Circle, 1 1/4" circle, 1 3/4" circle, Boho Blossom).  I handdrew the eyes with my white gel pen and Chocolate Chip marker.

The awesome patterned paper comes from the Autumn Meadows dsp pack.

The finishing touch is some Very Vanilla wide grosgrain....tied into a knot on each side of Mr. Gobbles.

Thankful

Happy Halloween everyone!!  I'll be back later with a spooktacular Halloween project, but for the Stamping 411 Saturday Sketch I wanted to make a thank you card.

As soon as I saw this layout, I knew I wanted to use my Wandering Words stamp set.  Any of the three images would work perfectly with this sketch. 

Here's the one I chose......

  
The base card is More Mustard (5 1/2" x 8 1/2"....folded in half).  I sponged the edges with Close to Cocoa ink.

The next layer is patterned paper from the Autumn Meadows Designer Series Paper Pack.  Let me tell you.....it is GORGEOUS!!!!

The focal image is inked with Chocolate Chip ink.  I took a Q-Tip and removed the ink from the leaves.  I colored the leaves with my Stampin' Write Markers (More Mustard, Really Rust, Ruby Red and Old Olive), huffed on the stamp and stamped it on Very Vanilla cardstock.  The edges are sponged with Close to Cocoa ink.

Following the sketch, I took a strip of Pumpkin Pie cardstock and punched the top edge with the Scallop Edge punch.  I lightly sponged the edges of this with Close to Cocoa ink.  The strip sits at the bottom edge of the focal layer.

The entire focal layer is matted on Old Olive cardstock (also sponged with Close to Cocoa ink).

I added some Chocolate Chip 1/4" grosgrain ribbon that has been threaded with a Very Vanilla Ribbon Slide (found in the Hodgepodge Hardware kit).

After adding everything to the card, I took my Color Spritzer Tool and my Close to Cocoa marker and spritzed the heck out of it.

Very shabby chic...........and perfect for Thanksgiving!!!!

Stamping 411: Saturday Sketch

It's Saturday Sketch time with the operators from the Stamping 411.  This week's sketch is one that you definitely need to print off and keep in a sketch binder.  You will use this one over and over.

This week I decided to make a Thanksgiving card.

I shifted my focal image to the right a little bit, but other than that, I pretty much stayed true to the original sketch.

The base card is Really Rust.

The More Mustard patterned paper comes from the Autumn Traditions DSP pack.  I sponged the edges with Soft Suede ink.

The Soft Suede patterned paper also comes from the Autumn Traditions DSP pack.  I lightly sponged the whole strip to "grunge" up the lighter areas.

I cut a 1" strip of Very Vanilla cardstock and punched the bottom edge using the Scallop Edge punch.  I lightly sponged the edges before adding to the bottom of the patterned paper strip.

I also added a 1/4" strip of Very Vanilla to the top of the patterned paper strip.

I colored on my Gobble Gobble stamp using my Stampin' Write markers.  I used Soft Suede, More Mustard and Really Rust.  I huffed on the stamp to re-moisten the ink prior to stamping on Very Vanilla cardstock.  I punched each corner with the ticket corner punch and sponged with Soft Suede ink.  This is then matted on some Really Rust cardstock (1/4" larger) that also has its corners punched with the Ticket Corner punch.

The sentiment is also part of the Gobble Gobble stamp.  After cleaning my stamp, I used my Soft Suede marker to ink only the sentiment.  I stamped it on a scrap of More Mustard cardstock and punched with the Large Oval punch.  I then matted it on some Soft Suede cardstock that was punched with the Scallop Oval Punch.  I pierced each of the scallops using my Paper Piercing tool.  I used dimensionals to give it some height.

That's it to my Thanksgiving card.
