Blogger's Challenge

It's been a couple of weeks since I've been able to participate in the Blogger's Challenge.  It's amazing how life just seems to sweep you off your feet and throw your schedule completely out the window!

This week, the challenge is a sketch challenge.  I tweaked the sketch a bit to fit my focal image (ahem, I go downstairs to play....without my laptop.....and I remember the sketch differently in my head than Lisa designed it).  Ah, living with CRS is a burden!!!

Well, would you like to see my card?

I really love the way it turned out.  I used a bunch of sneak peek colors on here:  Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso, Pear Pizzazz, Daffodil Delight.  I also added some Dusty Durango (retiring In Color) in there for good measure!

The base card is Cherry Cobbler.  

I dragged my Daffodil Delight ink pad along the Daffodil Delight cardstock.  

The Pear Pizzazz layer has been "oomphed-up" (today's new word) with the sneak peek Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder.

The focal image comes from my well-loved Elements of Style stamp set.  I inked it up with Black StazOn ink and stamped it onto a 2 1/2" Whisper White circle (cut with my Circle Scissor Plus).  It's matted on a 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" square of Early Espresso cardstock.  I used my Color Spritzer Tool and an Early Espresso marker to add some vintage spattering.

 This is all matted on a 3 3/8" x 3 3/8" piece of Whisper White that has been dirtied up with Chocolate Chip ink.  

Following the sketch, I added two small half-back white pearls (from the retiring Pretties Kit).

I added a sentiment.  I used my Teeny Tiny Wishes (seriously, this stamp set NEVER leaves my stamp desk).  It's stamped with Early Espresso ink onto Daffodil Delight cardstock and punched with the Word Window punch.  This is matted on Dusty Durango that's been punched with the Modern Label punch.  Both layers are sponged with Chocolate Chip ink.

Stamping 411: Saturday Sketch

Happy Saturday!!!  This weekend is another busy one.  I am at the Chaska Community Center from noon to 3pm on Saturday at the Holiday Boutique.  There will be ladies there selling gifts perfect for the holiday season.  I hope you can stop by to visit me and make a card!!! 

This week's Stamping 411 sketch is a fun one!!!  I've been on "Christmas Card Overload" this week....so I decided to make a birthday card for my sister-in-law instead.

Now, my card doesn't match the sketch exactly.  You see, I was going from memory and as you can see, my memory isn't exactly what it used to be!!  LOL!!!  But, it's close enough, right?

This color combination is from the Color Coach wheel.  I started with the Taken with Teal circle and went on from there.

The base card is Tempting Turquoise (4 1/4" x 11")....scored in half. 

The next layer is Apricot Appeal....and it is actually a folded piece of cardstock.  So, it's a card on a card.  I stamped this layer with my Tres Chic background stamp using Apricot Appeal ink.  The edges are also sponged with the same ink.

The next layer is a square of Certainly Celery cardstock.  I pierced the edges with my paper piercing tool and mat pack.  I added a Whisper White photo corner to balance out my card (using the Photo Corner punch for this makes this step a breeze).

The circle (which sits behind the flower) is Taken With Teal cardstock.  I used my Circle Scissor Plus to cut this out.  Wow!!  So easy to make a perfect circle. 

I added a large flower (from the Pretties Kit) on top of the circle.  I punched a 3/4" circle from Apricot Appeal cardstock and then added a Tempting Turquoise button on top of that.  Now, here's a trick I use with my buttons.  Cut a sliver of cardstock and feed through the button's holes.  Cut off the excess and secure with a mini glue dot.  It looks like thread but without the hassle of threading a needle.  Besides, now my "thread" can match my project EXACTLY because it's cardstock.  {thank you, thank you very much......as said in best Elvis voice}.

The sentiment (from Teeny Tiny Wishes) sits on a banner.  How do you make a banner?  Well, I am so glad you asked.  Cut a cardstock strip.  Place one end in your Photo Corner punch making sure to keep it centered.  Punch it out and you have a banner.  Woo hoo!!!

The final touch is the scalloped strip on the bottom of the card.  Using my Scallop Edge punch makes this so easy.  All it needs is some Whisper White 1/4" grosgrain ribbon to complete the sketch.
